New to Penny Online? How do I set up a username?

If you don't have a username to access Penny Online you need to contact the credit union to set up a username. When talking with a credit union representative there are some requirements for a username.

Username Requirements:
Must be a minimum of 3 characters with a maximum of 20 characters.
Must not contain any symbols or special characters
Must start with a letter

When a username is newly created, a temporary password will be provided to you. When first logging into Penny Online, you will need to change this temporary password. Your new password will need to be within the password requirements described on the Change password page. Passwords are case sensitive.

How do I access Penny Online?

First you have to find your way to www.pennstatefederal.com. You may do this by entering www.pennstatefederal.com in your browser's address bar, doing a web search for Penn State Federal Credit Union or maybe you have a bookmark to www.pennstatefederal.com.

Whichever method gets you to our website, you will need to enter your username in the upper right hand corner of the page and click Login button.

You will either be asked to obtain a security code, and then enter your password to access your account information.

-OR-

Enter your password to access your account information.

Why am I asked for a security code?

To help protect the security of your account, we will send you a security code that must be entered in order to log in. The security code allows us to double-check your identity and prevents unauthorized access to your account. Depending on the contact information that we have on file, we can send you a security code one of three different ways.

Methods to receive a security code:

  • Receive security code by text
  • Receive security code by email
  • Receive security code from a credit union representative.

When you receive the security code, you must enter the security code within 20 minutes. Afterwards, you will be asked to enter your password. After you have successfully entered your security code and password, the location where you're logging in will be remembered as a trusted location so that you do not need to repeat the security code process the next time you log in.

What happens if I do not enter the security code within 20 minutes?

If there is a problem receiving the security code, or if you do not enter the security code within the 20 minute time limit, you may simply return to www.pennstatefederal.com and repeat the process to log in and receive a new security code.

Why does Penny Online through a mobile phone browser ask for a security code every log in?

Penny Online uses location-based security. If you are on a mobile phone and using data/3G/4G, then you are frequently moving from cell tower to cell tower with your location changing. This means Penny Online will show the "New Location" page and ask for security codes. Here are three suggestions to help:

  1. Make it as easy as possible to receive security codes
Make sure you have an up-to-date mobile phone number and email on file at the credit union, so that you can easily receive security codes when needed.
  2. Use home WiFi
If you have WiFi at home, and are able to connect your phone to WiFi instead of data, then you should only need to enter a security code once to make your WiFi become a trusted location.
  3. Use Penny Mobile app
Penny Mobile uses device-based security and only asks for a one-time-PIN when you buy a new phone. Penny Mobile is available in Apple's App Store and in Google Play.

How do I know that Penny Online is secure?

After entering your username on www.pennstatefederal.com you will notice that the address bar has changed to secure.pennstatefederal.com. In addition, the address bar will be green with a security padlock. This indicates an Extended Validation certificate is in use. This is the highest class of a SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) certificate available.

If you are logging in from a new location or for the first time, you'll be asked to enter a security code. This can be obtained in one of three ways. You can have a security code sent to your mobile phone, your email address, or you can speak with one of our credit union representatives during business hours. This security code protects your account with two-factor authentication.

When entering your password, you will be greeted by first name. This greeting, in combination with the address bar certificate, helps to prove that you are using the genuine Penny Online. Looking for these indicators before entering your password will help to protect you against fake "phishing" websites.

These security measures must be completed successfully before you will be granted access to account information.

I forgot my username, how do I find out what it is?

If you don't know your username, you will need to contact the credit union and answer a few security questions to verify your identity and then you will be given your username.

I forgot my password, how do I get it reset?

If you have forgotten your password, a signed request to change the password is required. You may send in your signed request by fax, email or by dropping it off at one of our branch locations.

How do I log in?

Visit www.pennstatefederal.com and enter your username into the Username box found in the upper right hand corner of the site. After entering a valid username you will either be asked to enter your password, or to obtain a security code.
